Barrel Aged

As the name suggests, these beers are typically aged in wooden barrels. This allows them to absorb the flavor of the wood. Therefore , wood-aged beers taste different depending on the region, as different types of wood are used for the aging process. However, oak has become a somewhat standard in this craft. An aging period of several years is not uncommon. The alcohol content varies considerably, and you'll find both lighter and darker beers in color.
