SOMMERPAUSE

Moersleutel Craft Brewery

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS...
...four brothers from the Netherlands who had just finished their engineering studies and wanted to prove they were better than their father at everything, especially brewing beer. Dad challenged them to prove their claims and let them try their luck at the small brewery he owned. The lads got to work and brewed their first beer, which we in the Netherlands call "Grabenwasser"—rubbish, to put it mildly. Luckily, Dad and his friends weren't the worst winners. After they stopped laughing at the four youngsters, they all went back to the brewery and kept brewing until they got better and better. After practicing brewing for a while and experimenting with all sorts of flavors and additives, the brothers decided it was time to show the Dutch beer market how to brew truly tasty beer. The first brew they put on store shelves was an Imperial Stout. But not just any ordinary Imperial Stout. No, it wouldn't be that simple. It was the very first Barrel Blend (a mix of the stouts 'Motor Oil' and 'Je Moer') that was well received by beer lovers. A successful start, but the brothers saw room for improvement. They went back to the original recipe and tweaked it to make the beer even more delicious. They did this with every beer they released. The first version is usually great, but the second, third, or fourth version is even better. If you've ever tasted one of the first batches, it's quite astonishing that they're even produced. But the guys seem to keep pulling it off. Now, several years later, Moerspanner beers are considered among the best in the world and even the absolute best in the Netherlands. This makes them not just brewers, but true beer engineers.
